When you set in motion a disc with concentric black and white circles and watch it rotating for a while, the center seems to be either growing out towards you like a cone or retracting into the background like a crater. In optical physics, this is known as “stereocinetic phenomenon”. ICU illustrates this three-dimensional phenomenon frozen in a two-dimensional quilt.
