World Quilt Competition 2017 – The Winners From Germany

You will remember… Shortly before the September issue of the German Patcwork Gilde magazine went to press, I only had the opportunity to mention the names of the award-winning quilters who competed for Germany in this year’s World Quilt Competition (WQC).

And I had promised to provide more information about and photos of the award-winning works. I am very happy to keep this promise at this point.

As Germany was again represented with more than ten quilts (27 works, to be precise) a “Best of Country” prize was awarded among them. The winner was the quilt “St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna” by Ursula Bierbaumer-Bohle.

Further winners from the ranks of the German participants are:

  • “Best Hand Workmanship” in the category “Traditional” for “Andesine” by Andrea Stracke.
  • “Honorable Mention” in the category “Innovative” for “A-Maze-Ing Words” by Petra van den Daele.
  • And once again “Honorable Mention” in the category “Innovative” for “Seasons” by Claudia Scheja.

Congratulations again to the successful quilters and also to the other participants whose works are currently on an exhibition tour through the USA.

If you have now become curious about the German WQC 2017 quilts and would like to have a personal look at them, then you should plan a visit to the “Nadelwelt” trade fair in Karlsruhe from June 4 to 6, 2018. There these works will be shown in a unique and exclusive exhibition – and you will have the opportunity to talk to some of the artists personally on the one hand and on the other hand to vote for your very personal favorite in a public vote!

You should not miss this opportunity!

If you still feel like submitting a quilt for the WQC yourself, please let me know. I will then add you to my mailing list and send you the documents.
